NEWLY FORGED FIGURE

A single verb acts across two planes of reality.

A figure where a single verb governs two objects, one of which exists in the physical, literal world, and the other in an abstract, metaphorical, or spiritual realm.

Ontological Zeugma

Definition and original examples by Leonidas Esquire Williamson.

How it works.

The structure is a classic zeugma (verb + object 1 + object 2). The first object should be concrete and mundane. The second object must be abstract and profound. The surprise comes from the verb’s ability to operate in both realities at once.

The shared verb

Choose one action that can operate across two different contexts.

The physical object

Pair the verb with a concrete, ordinary object.

The metaphysical object

Let the same verb govern an abstract or spiritual object, making the bridge between worlds felt.

In plain language:

Use one verb to connect a concrete object with an abstract or spiritual one.

This explanation accompanies the original definition; it does not replace it.

Original Figure

:

Syllepsis

Classical Definition:

A figure of speech in which a word is applied to two others in different senses.

Iconic Example:

“She blew my nose and then she blew my mind.” (The Rolling Stones).

Reinterpretation (

A Philosophical/Quantum Lens

)

Syllepsis uses one word with two meanings. But what if a single word could be used to describe two actions that occur on completely different planes of reality (e.g., the physical and the metaphysical)? The pun is not on the word’s meaning, but on its ontological context, creating a bridge between the mundane and the profound.

Syllepsis applies a word to multiple objects in different senses. Ontological Zeugma emphasizes a single verb acting across two distinct planes: the physical and the metaphysical.

Stunning Original Examples

“

He lost his keys and his faith, though he was only truly concerned about one.

”

“

She opened the door and her future, stepping into the cold night air.

”

“

The general took the hill and a place in the history books.

”

Real-World Alchemy

Illustrative applications supplied by the creator; these are possibilities, not client testimonials or product claims.

Poetry and Prose

To create concise, powerful, and philosophically resonant sentences:

“

With that one signature, he signed the contract and his own damnation.

”

Speeches

“

This single act of courage raised a flag over the battlefield and hope in the hearts of millions.

”

Humor

“

I’m currently holding a grudge and a half-eaten sandwich, and I’m not sure which one to finish first.

”

THE BRIDGE AT WORK

One verb. Two realms.

The verb “lost” governs both keys and faith. One object is concrete and mundane; the other is inward and metaphysical. The shared action lets a practical concern open onto a deeper one.

“

He lost his keys and his faith, though he was only truly concerned about one.

”

For a creative brief, pair an object the audience can touch with an abstract truth the brand wants to express, then find the verb that can act on both.

Reflective Summary

With the Ontological Zeugma, we tempered the hammer of language into a double-edged strike, one that cut both the world of flesh and the world of spirit. A single verb lifted not only a stone but a destiny, not only a hand but a hope, not only a contract but a soul. Here the Logos revealed its duplicity as divinity: one act, two realms; one gesture, two realities. The forge rang with words that, like bridges, touched earth with one arch and eternity with the other.

Bridging Insight

Yet even this power, this bridging across dimensions, hints at a further horizon. For if one word can govern two worlds, what of statements that never arrive at their final resting place? What of declarations that gather strength by circling closer and closer to a truth so radiant it cannot be uttered outright? The zeugma yokes disparate realms, but the next figure bends trajectory itself—language approaching truth the way a curve approaches its asymptote, infinite in pursuit, unfinished in arrival.

Demonstrated Transition

It is not simply like reaching for a flame.

It is not simply like reaching for the sun.

It is not simply like reaching for the origin of light itself—

And though the last step remains unspoken, the silence glows brighter than words.

Cliffhanger Hand-Off

The forge now shapes not bridges, but horizons—lines that beckon, approach, and forever elude the final touch. What comes next is language stretched toward the infinite, a declaration that nears truth without consuming it: the Asymptotic Declaration.
