THE FIGURES · WORDS THAT STICK
Veritas Interfecta
Two truths collide. A hidden reality remains.
From Paradox to Mutually Annihilating Truths
NEWLY FORGED FIGURE
Truths meet in a volatile reaction.
The presentation of two or more statements that are independently true and valid, but whose coexistence is logically impossible, forcing the audience to confront the absurdity or tragedy of the underlying situation.
Veritas Interfecta (Latin for “Truths that Slay Each Other”)
Definition and original examples by Leonidas Esquire Williamson.
How it works.
Present two simple, true statements as if they are unrelated. The power comes from the audience’s dawning realization that both cannot be true in the same system, revealing a fundamental flaw in that system.
- The first truth
- State a clear claim that can stand on its own.
- The second truth
- Place beside it another independently valid claim.
- The collision
- Let the audience see the contradiction the system cannot resolve.
In plain language: Place two individually valid claims together until the contradiction exposes a deeper problem. This explanation accompanies the original definition; it does not replace it.
From Paradox to Mutually Annihilating Truths.
Original Figure: Paradox
Classical Definition: A statement that, despite apparently sound reasoning from acceptable premises, leads to a conclusion that seems self-contradictory or logically unacceptable.
Iconic Example: “I must be cruel only to be kind.” (William Shakespeare).
Reinterpretation (A Logical/Chemical Lens)
A paradox holds two conflicting ideas in a tense, stable union. But what if two statements could be crafted to be simultaneously true, yet when considered together, they logically annihilate each other, leaving behind only a third, unstated, and often unsettling reality? This is not a stable paradox; it is a volatile reaction.
Paradox holds opposing ideas together in apparent contradiction. Veritas Interfecta presents independently valid truths whose coexistence exposes a system that cannot make both true.
Stunning Original Examples
“The man had a key to every door in the house. The house had no doors.”
(The unstated reality: The man’s power is an illusion).
“The law states that all are equal. The law is applied only to the poor.”
(The unstated reality: The system is a hypocritical failure).
“He swore he would die for her. He lived a long and happy life.”
(The unstated reality: His oath was never tested, or it was false).

Illustrative applications supplied by the creator; these are possibilities, not client testimonials or product claims.
Investigative Journalism
“The company’s environmental report is flawless. The river next to their factory is dead.”
Satire/Comedy
“Everyone in this town is a rugged individualist. We all decided this together at last week’s mandatory town hall.”
Political Debate
“My opponent believes in complete freedom of speech. He has also proposed a list of books to be banned.”
THE REACTION AT WORK
A flawless report. A dead river.
The supplied journalism example places the company’s claim beside an observable condition. Each sentence makes a different assertion; together they force the reader to confront the contradiction between the report and the river.
“The company’s environmental report is flawless. The river next to their factory is dead.”

Reflective Summary
The forge has cooled, only to crackle again with sparks of contradiction. In Veritas Interfecta, we have seen that truth is not always a monolith but a duel. Each statement stands upright, gleaming with its own self-evidence, yet when placed beside its rival, both collapse into ruin. The law declares all are equal. The law applies only to the poor. Both true, both irrefutable, yet together they ignite into absurdity, into tragedy, into a silence where meaning must be reforged from the ashes. Here, language ceases to be a mirror of order and becomes instead a chemical crucible, where truths devour truths, leaving only the bitter smoke of what cannot be spoken.
Bridging Insight
And yet—even in annihilation, a pattern remains. The shards of slain truths do not vanish entirely. They refract, they glint, they reveal in miniature the shape of the whole they once contested. A paradox destroyed is not mere rubble; it is a mosaic, a fragment that reflects the totality from which it was torn. What if each splinter of broken truth is, in itself, an entire cosmos compressed into a detail?
Demonstrated Transition
The button on the general’s coat is polished until it blinds. In its cold shine, you glimpse an army’s obedience, a nation’s machinery of war. The crack in a teacup whispers of earthquakes, fault lines, entire cities trembling on their foundations. The way she lingers on your name—within that single syllable lives the whole biography of love: beginning, flourishing, ending.
Cliffhanger Hand-Off
Thus from the clash of annihilating truths, we turn to the revelation that the smallest fragment may yet hold the infinite. The forge now bends not toward destruction, but toward fractal reflection. Prepare yourself, for the next figure shimmers already in the ember: Holographeme.
